Everyone’s favourite cute ground-type Pokémon Sandshrew is actually inspired by the now critically endangered Chinese Pangolin. Is it weird that the spiral on Poliwag is actually tadpole intestines? 4. Glass frog tadpoles have tightly coiled intestines, that are visible through their transparent skin- which is what inspired the design for Poliwag. Glass frogs are a family of frogs that have certain species with completely transparent skin! Their skin is so transparent that you can very clearly see all their internal organs. This curious flopper is actually completely inspired from the Yelloweye Rockfish, one of the biggest species in the genus - an adult weigh above 10 kgs! The resemblance is uncanny. Yes, everyone remembers getting a Magikarp in the beginning and then just waiting for it to evolve into a Gyrados. Good old Caterpie, who’s been around since Generation I of Pokémon and who eventually turns into Butterfree, is actually an exact replica of the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Caterpillar! Caterpie is cute but the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Caterpillar is undoubtedly cuter. Nature has some really weird looking animals, to the point where you wonder if evolution is just… playing jigsaw(?)! Here are four animals that inspired actual Pokémon, and four more that definitely should! 1. If you’ve watched animal channels on TV as a kid, you’ve definitely seen some episode where they display ‘Nature’s Weirdest’ animals - and some of them actually look like they’re made-up. Their tough shells make them inedible, however. Oddly enough, Shrimpink emit a pleasant aroma that draws in Pokémon and humans alike. If a curious person or Pokémon attempts to investigate a Shrimpink's home, they will more than likely get pinched in retribution. Shrimpink burrow in soft sands, digging little circular burrows for themselves with their claws. Shrimpink themselves are near impossible to eat because of their hard shells. There is a popular sushi based off Shrimpink's cute appearance. Gentle Pokémon, they enjoy building structures in the sand with their new-found friends. Many people who live in around the seashore areas have fond childhood memories of playing with Shrimpink on the beach. They oftentimes do this when the terrain is too hard for them to dig through. Due to the armor on their backs, Shrimpink can curl into near-impenetrable balls. Their preferred method of attack is to weaken the ground under their opponent and attack from below with their claws. Shrimpink use their lengthy claws to burrow through the ground and jab at enemies. Shrimpink have two claws on each of their paws. Their eyes are ovoid and dark brown in colour. Shrimpink have short tails with a fan-like end to them. These can be found laying out on the sand, and are popular with beach combers. As Shrimpink grow larger, they shed the outer layers of shell. Each of the three layers of armor are rounded at the edges. Shrimpink have hard, tough armour made of chitin. Shrimpink are baby pink in colour, with the fur underneath their shells being lighter.
